Amory Ross Kills It

Over the past several years Amory has climbed the ladder from aspiring photographer to full on Media Guru. His latest work with Oracle Racing is definitely one of my top 3 Sailing videos of all time. Oh yeah and I guess it is pretty cool to see two Oracle AC72's lining up together.

During the 52 Worlds in Miami I decided to stop talking and start foiling. I purchased a Foiling Kiteboard from Nick Leason at MHL Custom and Lift Kiteboards and by the time I got home it was waiting for me. I had previously built my own asymmetric foiling speed board but I knew that if I was going to truly learn the technique of foiling with the kite then I needed a base platform to start.
The first four sessions involved a lot of swimming and crashing in the very chilly March waters here on Martha's Vineyard. Unfortunately I had to shelve the Foil for another 6 weeks while I went to the Caribbean to compete in the St Barths Bucket and Les Voiles de St Barths. When I finally got home I was itching to get on the water. Luckily for me we had some shipping issues with Vesper which allowed me to stay at home for 5 weeks straight and train regularly. It didn't hurt that 2X World Speed Sailing Champ Rob Douglas had come to the same conclusion as me and was fully into foiling. It did hurt that he was almost a year ahead of me both in practicing technique and his equipment. With that said I have been working hard to catch up and just enjoy the highly dynamic and efficient path I have begun.
My tacks are starting to happen more frequently and I am pulling off the occasional gybe. I am starting to recognize where my development path is going and every day on the water is teaching me more.
I haven't focused too much on producing media so far but with the help of my buddy Rich I was able to get a few short clips...More to come as I start to hit those gybes and as my buddies Brian Scall and Evan O'Connell at Dancing Turtle Coffee Shop get their Foils....It's going to be an exciting summer.
